Especie.org aims to make biodiversity information easier to discover and understand. The project focuses on species, scientific names, habitats, ecosystems, conservation status and the ecological relationships that connect living organisms.

Our long-term direction is to bring together educational articles, carefully sourced species references, practical discovery tools and links to established scientific databases. The project is evolving, and proposed tools are clearly identified as planned until their pages are implemented.

Editorial principles

Clear sources. Honest limitations.

Species names, conservation assessments, geographic records and ecological claims can vary by source and may change over time. Especie.org aims to identify the source behind factual information and, where possible, show the relevant date, geographic coverage and licensing conditions.

A missing observation does not prove that a species is absent. A predicted range is not the same as a confirmed observation, and an educational calculator is not an official conservation assessment.

Responsible use

Technology is a guide, not a final authority

Any future AI identification feature should communicate uncertainty and possible alternatives. Identification results must not be used alone to decide whether a mushroom is edible, a plant is safe to consume, or an animal is harmless.

Sensitive locations for threatened wildlife should be handled carefully. External datasets and media must be used according to their attribution, licensing and reuse requirements.
